Open House – February 2018

Please join us for Saturday, February 3, 2018
from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Every February we welcome parents and children, family and friends to tour our campus and ask questions about Dearcroft Montessori.

Celebrating 50 years… Dearcroft Montessori was established in 1968 and has remained family owned and operated throughout its history by a team of dedicated Montessori educators.

As Oakville’s original Montessori School and the third oldest Independent school in our community, Dearcroft is CCMA accredited and a founding member of the Oakville Independent Schools.

Our nurturing, highly dedicated staff take great pride in providing a naturally beautiful, warm and engaging learning environment for our students. Dearcroft offers programs for Toddlers to Grade 8, through a dynamic, highly enriched learning experience within our supportive and close-knit community.

Our highly experienced and qualified staff, excellent ratios and long-term relationships allow us to focus on all aspects of each child’s development.

What parents are saying:

“The owners, teachers and staff at Dearcroft are wonderful, caring people. The Montessori method, which allows children the freedom to focus where they’re most interested at times, and return to what challenges them most, in a compassionate way, is incredible. It’s amazing how children can flourish when properly supported, and we feel extremely privileged to have our children enrolled in such a school that provides such support. The gorgeous treed campus is a child’s wonderland. ”

According to my daughter: “We learn so much, in fun ways. We get lot’s of opportunities to do projects. My teachers are so nice. Learning from all the variety of materials is so helpful.”

Matt Gilgan ~ Parent in Junior and Senior Elementary

“Oliver, our three-year-old son has really enjoyed his time with all the schoolmates and teachers in Dearcroft and we are so thankful that he has been very well taken care of considering the big changes that he was going through with his change of school. We still remember that on the first day we brought Oliver to school that he barely looked back and cried as he entered the class. I’m very attentive on these tiny details which show that my little one felt at ease since day one. We have been incredibly impressed with Dearcroft’s nurturing, caring and professional approach to child education. I think we have met the most passionate and professional Montessori educators in Dearcroft.

Thank you so much for all you have done in making our son feel comfortable, cared for and safe.

As a Dad, I can only wish that Oliver’s next journey will be filled with the same joy and excitement for learning that he has found in Dearcroft.

We love Dearcroft and we are glad to be part of the Dearcroft family.”

~Sissy Yu and Roger Jie Luo (Oliver’s parents)_ Prima Casa

“What Dearcroft Means to me is a place where my children get to experience a community and personal relationships with their teachers.  They have been nurtured and cared for in ways that they wouldn’t have experienced elsewhere.”

~ Monica Kwias Parent

My Dearcroft…. student’s perspective:

“Dearcroft is my home, it is a safe place and I love it here. In Dearcroft no one hurts another person mentally or physically. At Dearcroft our teachers teach us not only about work but also about responsibility, kindness, initiative, and humor.”~ Senior Elementary Student

“Dearcroft means helpful because everybody helps me in their own way. I am thankful for going to the best school ever! Every year we go on a trip for 3 days. We go to Camp Muskoka!” ~ Junior Elementary Student

“To me Dearcroft means love. It means family. Whenever I’m feeling sad my friends and teachers know what to do. My Dearcroft is always trying to make the world a better place in every way we can.” ~Senior Elementary Student

“I went to Dearcroft Montessori from Casa to Grade 8 – The full eleven years. The two parts of Dearcroft that really stood out to me was the sense of community and the love of learning that has carried onto the rest of my education. The eleven years I spent at Dearcroft will forever be in my dearest memories. “~ Emma – Graduate

Joy Day!

On Monday December 18th the students were filled with spirit; they were dressed in their best holiday attire as they celebrated Joy Day!

With the holidays fast approaching, the teachers at Dearcroft wanted to plan a special morning for all of the children at the school to enjoy.

In keeping with the Montessori Pedagogy, each child was grouped based on mulit-ages, ranging from 18 months to 13 years.  Each student was put into a special group: Santa, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph and they rotated throughout the morning, spending time at each station. The older children helped the younger children with crafts, they read stories, they danced, and they held their hands through each transition.

Joy day was filled with music, laughter, critters, creatures, stories, sparkles, stickers, glue, music, and lots of fun!

From our Dearcroft Family to yours, we would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday!

Thank you for coming to The Fundraising Gifts From the Heart Shopping Event

Gifts from the Heart SHOPPING EVENT

On Friday, December 8th the students from the Senior Elementary class executed a plan they came up with after a visit to the downtown Oakville location of Ten Thousand Villages.  The students met the amazing energetic store manager Esther and learned that Ten Thousand Villages is largely a volunteer based, non-profit organization that works to empower artisans in developing countries through long term business relationships. Their fair – trade philosophy helps to empower marginalized populations by supporting their craft and providing a fair, stable income, enabling kids to spend their time in school instead of working.

From this initial visit and eventual follow up visits; ‘Gifts From the Heart’ – A Shopping Event was born.  The students wanted to put together an event to support Esther and the Ten Thousand Villages organization and learned they could fundraise for the Gift of Hope Fund. All proceeds from this event will be going to the Gift of Hope Funds, which has been established to help purchase equipment or for the emergency needs of artisans.

Students, teachers and Ten Thousand Villages’ volunteers worked hard to set-up the magical holiday shopping event in the West Wind Junior High Building.  Family and friends purchased hand-crafted items from Ten Thousand Villages, and books from Barefoot Books.  The creations made by Dearcroft students was exceptional! Everyone enjoyed the fair-trade, coffee, tea and hot chocolate and baked treats from the bake sale. Thank you to our Senior Elementary and Junior High students who handled the gift wrapping, managed the retail stations, and greeted all the visitors!

Following our event we heard from Esther and she expressed her thanks in the email written below.

“Dear all Dearcroft staff and students,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for organizing the Gifts From The Heart event held on the 8th of December. I really admire your organizational skills, all the extra time you put into this event made it successful. Indeed, it was a successful day for Ten Thousand Villages. My team and I enjoyed our time at the event.

All your efforts you have put into the event will be going to help the needy artisans around the world.
I have not balanced the sales yet, but we will be sending you the total amount of sales made on that date.

Please forward our appreciation to the parents who came to support the event.

Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!”

A Positive Introduction to Sports!

Little Kickers  Oakville soccer class comes to Dearcroft!

The Toddler and Prima Casa Classes have  looked forward to  gym time these last couple of weeks! They seemed to really enjoy their time with coach Larry  who owns the franchise for  Oakville and Southwest Mississauga. Coach  Larry tailored each class to the  specific age groups and was able to engage the children in such a fun, imaginative way.

They warmed up by doing some stretches before they played games with the soccer balls and nets.

During their 30 minute sessions in gym the  children  were introduced to the basics of soccer (dribbling, striking, goal scoring etc.) in a play-oriented yet structured format, using child-friendly but realistic soccer equipment.

Each child was given the opportunity to work within their ability level but taught in a group environment.

At little Kickers:

We give your children a positive introduction to sport by teaching high quality soccer skills in a friendly, pressure-free environment.

There are four different classes tailored specifically to the needs of children between 18 months and seven years of age.
