September 5th, 2019
6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
Over the last few months our Junior and Senior Elementary students at Dearcroft Montessori have had the opportunity to spend quality time with our Senior Friends from Churchill Retirement Residence in #DowntownOakville.
Students love spending time walking to the Residence to participate in programming activities with their Senior friends. This article outlines all the amazing benefits of intergenerational programming and how it can improve the lives of children and older adults and the impact it has on society.
Thank you to the parents who attended our Parent Information Session Wine & Cheese last evening. We look forward to an amazing year at Dearcroft Montessori School and thank you all for being a part of our Dearcroft Community. Please mark your calendars for our next Parent Information night scheduled on November 1st called Next Level Program. This is a great informative evening that will provide explanations for all levels, Toddler through Grade 8.
A global presence for over a century, the Montessori method of education has enriched countless lives in schools around the world.
At Dearcroft each child is followed as an individual and a program is designed specifically to meet his or her needs.
Dearcroft builds the foundation of community, global awareness, gratitude, a love for Canada, culture, the environment and most of all the love for learning. Children are free to be themselves, and to take initiative which inspires confidence, independence and most important, self-esteem.
Each child is celebrated, supported and guided.
“Joy, feeling one’s own value, being appreciated and loved by others, feeling useful and capable of production are all factors of enormous value for the human soul.” -Maria Montessori
The Toddler Program is for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years old. This is the period when children’s lives are the most formative, such that they absorb impressions from all aspects of their surroundings.
The Toddler Program is a community where a group of young children explore the world together. Toddlers work in a carefully designed environment where everything is child-sized. Children are expected to take on greater responsibility for themselves and eventually others. Practical life activities include many of the everyday tasks children observe their parents doing at home. At Dearcroft Montessori our toddlers enjoy and take pride in caring for their environment, themselves and each other.
Our learning environment has a diverse set of Montessori materials, activities and experiences. We have a schedule that allows large blocks of uninterrupted learning time. The bright and beautiful, spacious classroom encourages social interactions.
We work closely with parents in bringing the home environment in sync with the school environment. It is important that all children feel happy and safe in our school community.
We encourage you to come and book a tour of our school.

“CCMA sets standards to protect the Montessori name. Accreditation by CCMA is a way to help schools be accountable to each other, parents, and the larger community. It also helps establish a consistency of standards and the preservation of the Montessori philosophy of education. For parents, CCMA provides information and education to help make good choices and support their children in Montessori schools.”

Early in the 1900’s a method was developed by a woman way beyond her time. Maria Montessori grew up in Italy in the 1800’s and was the first female to graduate from medical school in Italy. After working with children in the insane asylums of Rome, she shifted her focus from being a Medical Doctor to becoming an educator. She had an initial breakthrough when she was selected to run a school for one of the slums in Rome. Montessori created her first Casa dei Bambini, also known as Children’s home, in the 1900’s. It was very successful and eventually her method expanded worldwide.
“I have studied the child. I have taken what the child has given me and expressed it and that is what is called the Montessori Method”.
Dr. Maria Montessori’s method was based upon observing children in their environment, and is very different from a traditional school. The roots of Montessori’s method are found in the natural way children learn. The approach builds the foundation for a lifetime of self-fulfillment because each individual child learns at their own pace and therefore gets to enjoy and experience what they are learning.
At Dearcroft Montessori School our experienced staff take great pride in offering a warm and engaging environment for students, providing programs for toddlers through Grade 8. Celebrating 50 years of leadership and innovation, Dearcroft Montessori School, founded in 1968, is Oakville’s original Montessori School and one of the first Canada-wide. It is situated within walking distance of downtown Oakville on a historic two-acre property. Dearcroft is CCMA accredited and a founding member of the Oakville Independent Schools.
