Thank You Dearcroft Community

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Dearcroft Community for such an amazing event on Friday December 7th.

Dearcroft Community, Season's Greetings, Holiday Wishes

Thank you to our supporting sponsors at Ten Thousand Villages who helped raise funds for two great causes, all proceeds that were raised during “gifts from the heart” market place will be going to global artisans from all over the world that will help put food on the table, provide schooling for children, and clean water.  “Gifts from the heart” raised $2000 and we are all so appreciative of everyone’s effort in supporting such an amazing organization that continually gives back. Fifteen percent of these proceeds will go towards the Ocean School Initiative.

We would also like to thank our community partner My Gym of Oakville who provided all the gym equipment and programming for the evening, so that Dearcroft students had a fun outlet to jump their sillies out!  We also appreciate the efforts of the Junior High students for providing all the festive games for the younger students to play.

Once again, Jon and Katherine Vellinga made our parent lounge a huge success with Zirkova Vodka holiday cocktails.  Denise and Chris Handscomb, the people behind the lovely charcuterie board, the veggie tray, and sweets joined them.  Dr. Denise Handscomb is a naturopathic Doctor, and clinic owner at Abaton Integrative Medicine and Chris Handscomb is a Financial Investment Advisor & Family Wealth Management.

Last but certainly not least we would like to thank the special man in the red suit for making a special stop from the North Pole (we all know who he is… Santa!) to spend some quality time with our lovely Dearcroft students.  It was very magical to have you!

Thank you to our parent volunteers who came in during the week to help transform Dearcroft into a Winter Wonderland full of festive fun.  To the parents who were able to provide sandwich trays, snacks and gifts for all the classroom baskets, we are so appreciative.  This is such a generous school community and we are certainly grateful for everyone’s contributions!  Proceeds raised during the raffle were $1,300, all going towards the Ocean School Initiative.

On behalf of the Dearcroft Staff, we wish you all a wonderful holiday.

Thank you for coming to The Fundraising Gifts From the Heart Shopping Event

Gifts from the Heart SHOPPING EVENT

On Friday, December 8th the students from the Senior Elementary class executed a plan they came up with after a visit to the downtown Oakville location of Ten Thousand Villages.  The students met the amazing energetic store manager Esther and learned that Ten Thousand Villages is largely a volunteer based, non-profit organization that works to empower artisans in developing countries through long term business relationships. Their fair – trade philosophy helps to empower marginalized populations by supporting their craft and providing a fair, stable income, enabling kids to spend their time in school instead of working.

From this initial visit and eventual follow up visits; ‘Gifts From the Heart’ – A Shopping Event was born.  The students wanted to put together an event to support Esther and the Ten Thousand Villages organization and learned they could fundraise for the Gift of Hope Fund. All proceeds from this event will be going to the Gift of Hope Funds, which has been established to help purchase equipment or for the emergency needs of artisans.

Students, teachers and Ten Thousand Villages’ volunteers worked hard to set-up the magical holiday shopping event in the West Wind Junior High Building.  Family and friends purchased hand-crafted items from Ten Thousand Villages, and books from Barefoot Books.  The creations made by Dearcroft students was exceptional! Everyone enjoyed the fair-trade, coffee, tea and hot chocolate and baked treats from the bake sale. Thank you to our Senior Elementary and Junior High students who handled the gift wrapping, managed the retail stations, and greeted all the visitors!

Following our event we heard from Esther and she expressed her thanks in the email written below.

“Dear all Dearcroft staff and students,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for organizing the Gifts From The Heart event held on the 8th of December. I really admire your organizational skills, all the extra time you put into this event made it successful. Indeed, it was a successful day for Ten Thousand Villages. My team and I enjoyed our time at the event.

All your efforts you have put into the event will be going to help the needy artisans around the world.
I have not balanced the sales yet, but we will be sending you the total amount of sales made on that date.

Please forward our appreciation to the parents who came to support the event.

Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!”
