Yesterday was another amazing day for our West Win Yesterday was another amazing day for our West Wind Junior students who have been camping locally at Bronte Provincial Park for their Fall Bonding trip. . . Students explored the camp grounds and great hiking trails that showcase the natural beauty of the park. Save the date: On Thursday, September 30th Dearc Save the date: On Thursday, September 30th Dearcroft Montessori School will be marking National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with a visit from our good friend, Doug Pawis (an Anishnabe elder from Shawanaga First Nation) . With the approach of Truth and Reconciliation Day next Thursday, we will be holding a toiletry drive for Shawanaga First Nation. . . Between Monday to Thursday next week, students are invited to bring in new and unopened toiletries. . . Possible items include soap, hairbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine products, shaving cream, hand cream, body lotion, as well as products for infants. Students can bring these directly to their classroom teachers. . . This a reminder that we also invite all of our students to wear orange on September 30th to commemorate the residential school experience and show support for Indigenous communities. 🧡 . . Our Senior Elementary class levels 4-6 have been e Our Senior Elementary class levels 4-6 have been exploring First Nations and Indigenous cultures of Canada. . . Students read the book "Treaty Words For As Long As the Rivers Flow" written by Aimee Craft, a beautifully illustrated book that describes what treaties are "The first treaty that was made was between the earth and sky. It was an agreement to work together. We build all of our treaties on the original treaty." After reading this book as part of their lesson on creating a classroom agreement, students created their own Tree of Peace Treaty by creating a wall in their classroom, surrounded by peace doves 🕊 consisting of mutual respect, kindness, trust, inclusion, honesty, doing their best, being positive and being grateful for one another. ❤ . . They signed a Senior Elementary Peace Treaty based on the Mohawk Great Law of Peace where weapons were buried under a tree, students signed their names on peace doves to create their own Tree of Peace. . .
