Are you looking for a screen free activity? Why no Are you looking for a screen free activity? Why not start creating cards for Seniors....We have partnered with @reading.corner.2020
who will be collecting cards, poems, and pieces of art by February 5th, to give to Seniors this Valentine's Day.❤💛💜
.
We want to create as many cards as we can to distribute to several Long Term Care facilities in Halton this Valentine's Day.

Make sure to tag us @dearcroft and @reading.corner.2020 so that we can see your beautiful work!
We are so happy partner with @reading.corner.2020 We are so happy partner with @reading.corner.2020 and be a part of this wonderfully kind initiative to help support our Senior friends who are in need of love and support. ❤

Help 'Sponsor a Senior' is an effort to engage senior citizens in creative activity and reduce the impact of isolation and boredom.
.
.
Here is some information on what they are doing to help support our Senior friends living in Long Term Care.
.
.
We are doing two things.
.
First, we are raising funds to buy activity books and puzzles to give to seniors residing in LTCs.
.
The goal is to provide activities that bring happiness and a 'fun' change of pace over the coming weeks and months.
.
Second, and given that Valentine's Day is coming, we are collecting cards, written by children, filled with jokes, 'fun facts', drawings, or anything they would like to say - to give to the seniors in our community.
.
.
As you know, many senior citizens in Long Term Care (LTC) suffer from isolation in the 'best of times'. These days, with COVID restrictions and limitations on visits from friends and family, things are even worse. You may have seen or read reporting about the mental health impacts of isolation, which are amplified for seniors including those who live alone in LTC or suffer from other conditions such as dementia, and so on. Where these individuals would normally enjoy communal meals, activities such as bingo nights, visitors, or simply an opportunity for a change of scenery by sitting in a common area - many of these opportunities no longer exist.
.
For our Dearcroft Montessori School students there will be a box set-up on the front porch where you can drop off your hand-made cards for Seniors before February 5th.
.
.

A Montessori education consciously designs social communities and educational experiences that cultivate the child’s sense of self-awareness and empathy. Montessori learning environments allow for the respect and celebration of individual spirit within people of all ages.

.
There are so many benefits to having children help out around the house. It creates a sense of ownership and belonging, respect for their environment, surroundings and their family. It helps to build character and establish a great sense of empowerment. This helps to develop their independence and confidence skills.

"When the children had completed an absorbing bit "When the children had completed an absorbing bit of work, they appeared rested and deeply pleased. It almost seemed as if a road had opened up within their souls that led to all their latent powers, revealing the better part of themselves. They exhibited a great affability to everyone, put themselves out to help others and seemed full of good will."
