Dear Toddler and Casa parents,
Dear Toddler and Casa parents,
Please let us know if you can join in for the following workshops we have set up for November. These sessions are appropriate for parents from all of our classes, and we hope you can join us!
Tuesday, November 19th Elementary Curriculum Session (Grades 1-6)
Anna Campbell, Director of Programming, Dearcroft
9:15 am – 10:00 am
Come learn about how students in the Junior and Senior Elementary program become their own ambassadors of learning and growing, and how we encourage and inspire a love of learning by going beyond and helping the student develop as a whole person. Join us for an informative session to learn more about Montessori in the Elementary years and why it is such a natural choice. Learn about how careful attention is paid to the development of language and mathematical skills and how these abilities assist in the integrated areas of history, geography, science, botany, zoology and peace education. Gain information on how our program allows for students to have consistency, challenge, individualized instruction, and programs tailored to their specific needs. Bring your questions and find out how you can work closely with the school and teachers on your child’s development.
Wednesday, November 20th: MYndfulness Movement Program
Deb Taylor
2:15 pm – 3:15 pm
This informative workshop will provide a brief introduction to the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ of mindfulness-based techniques, designed to give students relevancy to their lives to motivate ongoing practice. Gain insight on Dearcroft’s 8-week mindfulness-based program for students from Casa through to Junior High. Deb Taylor, our mindfulness instructor, will lead a variety of activities, including breath work while setting positive intentions, mindful movement for self-regulation, active listening for enhanced focus and sensory awareness for emotional regulation. These are easy to teach and lead, as parents find their favourites to continue practicing at home with their child. A more regulated system of their own often comes as a pleasant surprise to parents as they practice with their child. Parents will see how these engaging activities help our children and youth see through a lens of mindful awareness with compassion to themselves and others for a more ease-filled life.
Friday, November 22nd: Vision and Learning Workshop
Dr. Gall from Oakville Centre for Vision
2:15 pm – 3:15 pm
Did you know that nearly 80% of what we learn channels through our eyes, and is processed to make sense of what we see? Vision problems can contribute to eye-use difficulties which may not be detected during a basic eye exam. A patient may have 20/20 vision clarity yet still have visual interferences, limiting school performance or making the student work twice as hard for their academic success. Learning- related vision problems are treatable with diligent effort.

Our skating sessions for this year’s Winter Term Phys-Ed program for the Elementary and Junior High students is off to a great start! We are so pleased to carry on another Dearcroft tradition.
For the Senior and Junior High sessions, we will have two pads of ice at our disposal.
We use one for shinny hockey and the other for skating and developmental
drills/games.
In order to carry out this program tradition, we are so appreciative for all of the support
from parent volunteers.
“Joy, feeling one’s own value, being appreciated and loved by others, feeling useful and capable of production are all factors of enormous value for the human soul.” -Maria Montessori
The Toddler Program is for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years old. This is the period when children’s lives are the most formative, such that they absorb impressions from all aspects of their surroundings.
The Toddler Program is a community where a group of young children explore the world together. Toddlers work in a carefully designed environment where everything is child-sized. Children are expected to take on greater responsibility for themselves and eventually others. Practical life activities include many of the everyday tasks children observe their parents doing at home. At Dearcroft Montessori our toddlers enjoy and take pride in caring for their environment, themselves and each other.
Our learning environment has a diverse set of Montessori materials, activities and experiences. We have a schedule that allows large blocks of uninterrupted learning time. The bright and beautiful, spacious classroom encourages social interactions.
We work closely with parents in bringing the home environment in sync with the school environment. It is important that all children feel happy and safe in our school community.
We encourage you to come and book a tour of our school.
On Wednesday June 20th, between 9:30am and 11:30am Dearcroft will be celebrating 50 years with the Students by having a big 50th fun fair! This community event will host 14 Oakville businesses that will be giving a hands-on experience of what their business has to offer the students at Dearcroft. The students will be kicking off the event with special song called “My Dearcroft” written by three Senior Elementary Students.
The students at Dearcroft Montessori will be dressed down for the day wearing Dearcroft colours to support fellow Student, Lia Goh on her efforts to raise money for POGO (Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario) For Kids with Cancer for a fundraiser to support families at Sick Kids Foundation. Lia Goh is a cancer survivor who is in the Senior Elementary class at Dearcroft and feels very passionate about supporting such an amazing cause and will be bringing the funds that she has raised over the year to the POGO gala hosted in February of 2019.
It’s time to celebrate! Join us for a relaxed evening as we mark our Golden Anniversary. This will be a great chance to spend time with those connected to Dearcroft, both past and present. Enjoy an adult night out in our natural campus with lots of food and drinks and live entertainment.
Questions: s.nelson@dearcroft-montessori.com
