Thursday February 28th, 2019
6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Please join us for a special evening to celebrate our students’ talents in music and arts. Throughout the school year, Dearcroft students have been studying ocean conservation as well as the historic and contemporary role of Canada’s First Nation communities and artists. In addition to in class studies, these themes have been further explored through special field trips, art gallery visits, expedition education explorations, and films like Sharkwater Extinction.
In celebration of this, we would like to welcome Dearcroft families to participate in our very own Art Gallery featuring: The Four Seasons, Under the Sea, Canadian Abstract, Still Life, Inuit Art, Portraits, Sea Animals, and Sculptures, accompanied by individual classical music performances. Students will be guiding families throughout the gallery and providing background information regarding the art on display.
To close out the evening there will be a musical performance featuring all of the students singing Canadian themed songs.
Some refreshments will be served during the evening, sponsored by the Burgess family.
Donations to Ocean School Initiative will be accepted at the door.
On Friday June 15th, at Dearcroft Montessori School at 7:00 p.m. To end this school year, Dearcroft Montessori celebrated 50 years a school! This community event will host 14 Oakville businesses that will be giving a hands-on experience of what their business has to offer the students at Dearcroft. The students will be kicking off the event with special song called “My Dearcroft” written by three Senior Elementary Students.
The students at Dearcroft Montessori will be dressed down for the day wearing Dearcroft colours to support fellow Student, Lia Goh on her efforts to raise money for POGO (Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario) For Kids with Cancer for a fundraiser to support families at Sick Kids Foundation. On Friday, December 8th the students from the Senior Elementary class executed a plan they came up with after a visit to the downtown Oakville location of Ten Thousand Villages. The students met the amazing energetic store manager Esther and learned that Ten Thousand Villages is largely a volunteer based, non-profit organization that works to empower artisans in developing countries through long term business relationships. Their fair – trade philosophy helps to empower marginalized populations by supporting their craft and providing a fair, stable income, enabling kids to spend their time in school instead of working.
From this initial visit and eventual follow up visits; ‘Gifts From the Heart’ – A Shopping Event was born. The students wanted to put together an event to support Esther and the Ten Thousand Villages organization and learned they could fundraise for the Gift of Hope Fund. All proceeds from this event will be going to the Gift of Hope Funds, which has been established to help purchase equipment or for the emergency needs of artisans.
Students, teachers and Ten Thousand Villages’ volunteers worked hard to set-up the magical holiday shopping event in the West Wind Junior High Building. Family and friends purchased hand-crafted items from Ten Thousand Villages, and books from Barefoot Books. The creations made by Dearcroft students was exceptional! Everyone enjoyed the fair-trade, coffee, tea and hot chocolate and baked treats from the bake sale. Thank you to our Senior Elementary and Junior High students who handled the gift wrapping, managed the retail stations, and greeted all the visitors!
Following our event we heard from Esther and she expressed her thanks in the email written below.
“Dear all Dearcroft staff and students,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for organizing the Gifts From The Heart event held on the 8th of December. I really admire your organizational skills, all the extra time you put into this event made it successful. Indeed, it was a successful day for Ten Thousand Villages. My team and I enjoyed our time at the event.
All your efforts you have put into the event will be going to help the needy artisans around the world.
I have not balanced the sales yet, but we will be sending you the total amount of sales made on that date.
Please forward our appreciation to the parents who came to support the event.
Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you!”
